Now if you are like me, you would’ve, at some stage, had the no bake protein balls from your local Health Food Shop.
The protein balls you can get from the shops are made with many different healthy natural ingredients and they are generally low carbohydrate protein balls too.
So, this is a recipe for you to make protein balls that are a little different.
These below are no bake protein balls with protein powder added into the recipe.
This extra added protein boosts the protein levels in the protein balls to make sure you are hitting your protein targets for the day.
The other great thing about this recipe is you can add pretty much whatever extra flavoured ingredients to the protein balls to suit your taste.
The extra ingredients means the world is the limit in experimenting with your flavours and this means you’ll end up with a snack you will really like to eat.
Be warned though that this recipe is a little more work than going to the shop and buying a packet of protein balls.
But this is the price you pay if you want to create your own and have them taste just the way you like them while also having some fun at the same time!
Ingredients you’ll need
Here is an outline of the ingredients needed to make your protein balls.
- 1 x cup of Quick Oats
- 3 x tablespoons of Vanilla Protein Powder or Natural Protein Powder
- 1 x tablespoon of Coconut Oil
- 3 x tablespoons of Peanut Butter
- 1 x tablespoon of Chia Seeds
- 3 x tablespoons of Honey or use 4 or so drops of Stevia instead
- 1 x tablespoon of Almond Meal
As you can see by the above, this protein ball recipe would be a Peanut Butter Vanilla Coconut Protein Balls if you used the vanilla flavoured protein powder.
And it could be called Peanut Butter Coconut flavour if you used the natural unflavoured protein powder in the recipe too.
As I’ve said, you can experiment with the flavours by adding in the extras or adding more of what you enjoy the most.
Remember with each batch make sure you write down what you have used and in what amount to see what your favourite is.
Then you can easily make the balls the same way next time if you want!
The extra ingredients that can be used in this recipe are;
- Dates
- Raisins
- Sultanas
- Chia seeds
- Shredded coconut
- Cacao nibs/powder
- Chopped dried apricots
- Or any type of dried fruit you would like to add
Remember to cut up these extra ingredients if you need too.
As you’ll see, most dried fruit are whole and need to be chopped up so they can easily be added to the mix.
How to make this protein ball recipe
For some of the ingredients above it will depend on where you live and how hot it is, whether they are easy to work with when creating your protein balls.
Where I live it is quite warm most of the year so the ingredients are very easy to mix together.
This is the case with the coconut oil as it is liquid in the warmer times of the year and harder through the colder times of the year.
If it’s cold where you live, you may have to microwave a few of the ingredients for a short time so you can work with them to mix and shape them easily into the balls.
Method
Now here comes the easy part of the whole no bake protein ball recipe.
- Get your mixing bowl out of your cupboard
- Put all of the ingredients into the mixing bowl
- Mix all of the protein ball ingredients together
- Put glad wrap or a plate over the top of the mixing bowl and put it in the fridge
- After about half an hour get the mixture out of the fridge
- Roll the mixture into the size protein balls you want and then put them into a container
I told you this was an easy protein ball recipe!
Sometimes if I get a bit excited and put too much of one ingredient in the mix, it gets a bit gooey.
Then you just have to add in a bit more protein powder or another dry ingredient to thicken it up.
Also if the mix is ok to put into ball shapes prior to putting in the fridge, I just roll them up and put them into the container.
So there is a bit of trial and error and also adapting to the mix in this protein ball recipe and that’s half the fun of making these yourself!
Enjoy making these Protein Balls!
I hope you give this protein ball recipe a try and like I have said, have fun doing so.
There are so many variations you can try with ingredients in this recipe, which means you could almost have a different protein ball recipe every week if you wanted to.
